Fun-filled field trip takes a stop in Port-Thai-Land

Pineapple fried rice. Oh my how I love you.

Tom Yum is a Thai restaurant located in the Woodstock area. It’s a little hidden in the sense that those of us who know Jack-shit about Portland can’t easily navigate our way to this land of happy-Thainess. But this little joint is worth a fun trip that may get you amusingly lost.

When you arrive you’ll find an oasis of curries, stir fries, noodles and fried rice. The pumpkin curry is rich and flavorful, the spring rolls just as they should be, and the drunken noodles dripping with sweet spiciness. The pineapple fried rice is where it’s at though. It’s served as it commonly is with pineapple, meat, cashews and their selection of veggies which includes carrots, green beans and corn. One order is sufficient for two meals, hooray!

Hello pumpkin curry, prepare to be decimated.

Double bonus points because everything can be made to order. You want extra cashews? You got it!

If I have one criticism it’s that the veggies are frozen/canned. Switching to fresh veggies, especially in summer would be easy, comparable in price and give them a little extra edge in their quality of food, which is already great and seasoned just perfectly.

And , of course, you get buckets of food for cheap, always a plus. This is a place I’ve already been to several times and plan on continuing to go to. I suggest you do to, and give me a ring, we’ll go together!
